At The Costume Shop & Musical Theatre Cape Town, we specialise in costumes, theatrical makeup, accessories and performance essentials for musical theatre, stage productions, cosplay, Halloween, Comic Con, dance, film and creative events in Cape Town and across South Africa.

We are a costume and makeup sales store only. We do not offer costume or garment rentals. All costumes, garments, accessories, makeup and products purchased from us are sold outright.

Shipping & Delivery

All online orders are sent by courier to ensure safe and speedy delivery.

Free Shipping – Orders Over R1000

Orders of R2000 or more qualify for free standard delivery.

Estimated delivery:

    • Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban: 2–5 working days

    • Other areas: 5–7 working days

    • Regional areas may take longer

All items that are listed as in stock are dispatched within 24 hours after payment has cleared.

If you require your order urgently, please select Express Shipping at checkout.

Standard Shipping – 2–5 Working Days

Standard courier delivery is available throughout South Africa.

    • Main Centres: R120

    • Regional areas: R150

Orders are dispatched within 24 hours after payment has cleared.

Where possible, orders placed before 10:00 may be delivered the following working day to major centres. However, please allow the full 2–5 working days for delivery, as courier delays and circumstances outside our control may occur.

Express Shipping – 1–2 Working Days

For customers who need their costumes, makeup or performance supplies urgently, Express Shipping is available.

Rates:

    • Nationwide: R175

    • Main centres: R175

    • Regional areas: R200

Orders are dispatched within 24 hours after payment has cleared.

Express delivery is generally the following working day to major centres, but please allow the full 1–2 working days for delivery.

Regional areas may require additional delivery time.

Click & Collect

Dancewear only is on a click and collect 

You will be contacted when your order is ready for collection.

Please do not arrive to collect an order until you have received confirmation that it is ready.

We don’t keep any products at our Office location. All stock is kept and packaged in a Warehouse

Order Processing

Orders are dispatched within 24 hours after payment has cleared.

Payments made through PayFast on our website generally clear immediately.

Delivery timeframes begin once your order has been dispatched and are estimates provided by the courier. While we make every effort to meet the stated delivery times, delays caused by courier networks, weather, peak periods, incorrect addresses or other circumstances outside our control may occur.

If we become aware of a significant delivery delay, we will contact you with an updated estimated delivery time.

Returns & Refunds

At The Costume Shop & Musical Theatre Cape Town, we want you to be happy with your purchase. Because many of our products are costumes, garments, makeup and performance products, returned items must meet specific conditions to be eligible for a return.

48-Hour Return Window

If you wish to request a return for an eligible product, you must contact us within 48 hours of delivery.

No change-of-mind returns or refund requests will be accepted after the 48-hour return window has closed, except where applicable consumer legislation provides otherwise.

Please include your order number, the product you wish to return and the reason for the return.

Condition of Returned Products

All returned products must be:

    • Unused and unworn

    • In their original, undamaged packaging or packet

    • Returned with all original labels, tags and accessories

    • In a condition suitable for resale

    • Free from makeup, stains, odours, damage or signs of wear

Costumes and garments must be tried on carefully and must not be worn for an event, performance, photoshoot or other purpose before being returned.

Products that have been opened, used, applied or altered may not be eligible for return, particularly makeup, special-effects products, prosthetics and other products where hygiene or safety considerations apply.

Products must be returned in their original packet or packaging.

If an item is returned without its original packaging, has been worn or used, or is not in a resalable condition, we reserve the right to refuse the return where permitted by law.

Return Shipping Costs & Refund Amounts

For approved change-of-mind returns, the customer is responsible for the cost of returning the product to our warehouse.

The return shipping cost will be deducted from the refund amount.

The original shipping fee paid when placing the order is not refundable.

Therefore, where a return is approved, the refund will generally be calculated as:

Cost of the returned item – return shipping cost

Original delivery/shipping charges will not be refunded.

This means that customers will receive a refund for the eligible product cost only, less the applicable cost of returning the item to our warehouse.

14-Day Return Assessment

Once your returned product has arrived at our warehouse, it will be inspected by our team.

Please allow up to 14 days for us to assess the garment, costume or product before a refund is approved.

Our assessment will include checking that:

    • The product is unused and unworn

    • The product is in its original packet or packaging

    • All original labels, tags and accessories are present

    • The product has not been damaged, stained or altered

    • The product is in a clean and resalable condition

A refund will only be processed after the return has been assessed and approved.

If the product does not meet our return requirements, the return may be rejected and the product may be made available for collection or returned to the customer at the customer’s expense, where permitted by law.

Faulty, Incorrect or Missing Items

If you receive an item that is faulty, incorrect or missing, please contact us as soon as possible after delivery.

Please email us with your order number and details of the problem. Photographs may be requested to help us assess the issue.

Faulty or incorrect products will be handled in accordance with applicable South African consumer legislation.

Please do not use, alter, wash, repair or modify a product that you believe is faulty before contacting us.

Costumes Are Sold, Not Rented

The Costume Shop & Musical Theatre Cape Town is a retail costume and theatrical supplies store.

We do not rent costumes, garments or accessories.

All costumes and garments available through our website or store are for purchase only.

Our products are sold outright and are not supplied on a rental, hire or return-after-use basis.

Costumes, theatrical makeup, wigs, accessories and special-effects products are often purchased for specific productions, performances, events and deadlines.

We strongly recommend checking the size, colour, style, product description and delivery requirements before placing your order.
